Our association and legacy with wraparound/playwork
Coram Hempsall’s has a longstanding association with play work and wraparound provision:
Our Manging Director, James Hempsall started his career in playwork in 1985, delivering out of school provision in some of Leicester’s most deprived communities. James’ journey, commitment and passion for the sector encouraged him to offer Training and Consultancy to the sector that would positively impact and inform practice whilst enhancing the best outcomes for children, families and communities.
We continue this passion offering training and consultancy for the playwork and out of school sector from wraparound to Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) provision. Our current experience of delivering the national support contract for HAF and the National Wraparound Childcare programme supports our understanding of the support and training needs for the sector.
Our offer
With this in mind let’s consider how Coram Hempsall’s can support your training for the sector
Our latest training has been designed to meet the needs of the sector, supporting ongoing sustainability and quality of provision needs.
Here’s an example of some of the training:
- Preparing for play
- Focuses on the playwork principles and how they are achieved in practice. It introduces playwork theories, explores the benefits of risk and challenge in play and the importance of consulting with children.
- Reflective Playworker
- Supports out of school practitioners to achieve the best possible environment to enable freely chosen self-directed play and learning. The session also examines how reflective practice supports individual children to enjoy and achieve.
- Business support Protecting your business for 2026 and beyond
- Uses our tried and tested business health check to provide a review of current business health and identify actions to support future sustainability.
- Safeguarding essentials for wraparound and HAF
- The safeguarding of children and their protection is an essential task for everyone working in wraparound or HAF. The training takes a step-by-step approach to ensuring all staff are confident and skilled in knowing how to recognise, respond, record and refer safeguarding concerns.
- Being a DSL in wraparound and HAF provision
- The training supports the DSL to fulfill this essential leadership role. It explores the responsibilities of the DSL in an out of school context providing practical advice and guidance.
- Safer recruitment essentials
- Experience over many years has highlighted the need for safer recruitment processes to be embedded as standard practice for all organisations working with children and young people. This aims to deter unsuitable people from working in the sector. This training explores the requirements and provides practical advice to ensure only safe and suitable people are employed, creating a culture where children can learn, play and thrive.
Our training programme framework is adaptable to meet the needs of those new to the sector or those needing a refresher may suffice training needs and is bespoke to each local authority area.
